Alpha Presentation

Last week, on Thursday the 16th, my group and I completed one of our main milestones: the alpha presentation. The goal was to present everything we came up with until that point in our game and receive feedback and tips both from the teachers and the other students.

At the same time,  we were required to answer a few questions, such as:

  • The concept we decided to go for and why we chose it
  • How we interpret the concept
  • Things that we were either satisfied with, not satisfied with and the reason why
  • Solutions to the problems we encountered
  • What we were going to focus on for the Beta

The presentation was supposed to last 10 minutes in total, including a quick gameplay in order to show the actual game.

As the group’s project manager, I took it on myself to present our game and asked our Designer to take care of the gameplay part. The reason behind that was mainly due to the possible questions arising, especially regarding things that he envisioned in the game and features that we were still unsure about, thus I was sure he would have been able to explain them better.

The day before the presentation, my group and I had a Skype meeting and discussed all the questions I had to answer during the presentation. I decided to ask their opinion on each question and proceeded to gather all of their answers in my notes. The reason why I decided to not do it completely by myself, is mainly because I wanted to present our game based on our group: what my team members thought about interpreting the game or things they weren’t satisfied with matters a lot to me, and making it only about my opinion and things I wasn’t satisfied with didn’t feel quite right.

After gathering all of my teammates opinions on the questions, I started creating the general outline of the PowerPoint, including all the info needed. After that, I just had to make it pretty.

As I wanted to show off my graphic guys wonderful work, I firstly used the top layer of our parallax as the slides background:

For the same reason, I tried to include as much concept art as possible, while still keeping the presentation clean.
Overall, the presentation went well and it was really interesting to see everybody else’s work, it was very inspiring and at the same time exciting. Next up on the calendar will be our next milestone, the Beta.
