The Art Of Creating Satisfying Feedback!

At the start of the project we decide that one of are main focus was to create a satisfying game play when you use your weapons to shoot your enemies. To achieve this i started to dig in to the deeps of  the internet to later find anything that could help me to learn and understand the art of creating feedback. On my time digging something caught my eye. A video from the Nordic game confreres  2012 Juice it or lose it – a talk by Martin Jonasson & Petri Purho.

This video gave a broad idé of how i could implement different types of feedback to make are game shine. But i did not have a clear view about how i could improve and implement this feed back with are core shooting mechanics. Until i stumble upon this video that game me the core fundamentals of thinking when i designed are shooting mechanics.

With this Knowledge i set up goals of how to implement the feed back starting from a priority list.

i started to script the screen shake that would trigger whenever the player get hit to signal that you are in danger and that they are losing health.

then next up was to create some small explosions that would explode with the screen sake when a enemy dies. this was a really fun experiences seeing the script go to work shaking the camera all over the place. because of the chaos i decided to make so that the triggering of explosions could be adjusted.

last i when to create some easy recoil force to our player when it shoot and some push back on the weapon so that you could feel the force in each shoot you fired. I cool effect i just added for the fun f it was a simple particle effect that spawn when a shoot is fired and travels in the same directions as the bullet behind it but spawns a white trails as well creating this effect of giving the pullets a trail after them.

The end result from this was splendid and at are first alpha test section the majority or almost everyone  gave us the feedback that they loved the shooting and that it felt satisfying.

her a video of are game in the end of alpha!
