Blog Post #2

Hello again!

For this week I’m going to write about the playtesting that took place during Monday earlier this week. All the groups were gathered in one big room to showcase their games and to try out other groups’ games.

This was a great experience. Not only because we got to try all the games out, but also because of all valuable feedback we received for our game. Before we attended the playtesting I prepared a survey containing a bunch of question related to our group’s game. For example I asked how the movement felt and if people understood all parts of the core gameplay along with many other questions.

We used Google Forms for the survey. According to me it was a very efficient and fun way of gathering thoughts and opinions from other students. After the playtesting was done me along with my group reviewed the results which were very well organized thanks to Google Forms.

We mostly got criticism about our game’s feedback and level layout. This is something our group thought a lot about even before the playtesting, but it was extremely valuable getting tips and thoughts from our classmates. We received so many great ideas so now, after combining our criticism and our own ideas we have a very clear picture of what needs to be done for our next milestone, Beta.

A few of the ideas we have for our game is to improve the feeling of progression by guiding the player through the environment of the game and giving clear feedback of what’s been accomplished and where the player should head next. This also help the player feel less lost, which was one of the biggest problems people had during the playtesting.

If we manage to implement this and manage to implement the narrative into our game in a smooth way I think we’ll be on a very good path. We still need to make a clear plan of how we’re going to do this and for what we’ll actually be able to do in time (since there’s only four days left til the feature freeze).

Either way, I’m really happy about how the playtesting turned out, I held the Alpha presentation today and now I’m switching my focus to the Beta milestone.

That’s all for this week, peace.
