First Week of Production
|
As I am writing I am just hours away from the first Sprint review meeting, meaning this week will “end”. It’s been a stressful week with loads to do. I must admit though, that I failed as a designer. We are working with a agile game developing method, scrum, and already from the first meeting my whole team was confused about what that actually meant. Even I that had some lesson in it and had read about it was confused, so I can imagine how confused our programmers and artists were. So this first week we have been working with some kind of mix with waterfall method and previously mentioned method. It worked for this week, our programmers have been so wonderfull, they are already ahead of schedule and has been working super hard. I’m so proud and thankful to them, they are really devoted to this project. Next week I will introduce Agile in scrum for my team, and if there is a confusion of something we will solve it before anyone leaves the sprint planning meeting. For myself it feels like I have not done anything useful this week. I’ve been writing a “design document” for our choices in the game. I also play tested and made small analyzes what the programmers have made. So far we have a working protagonist, a witch. She can move, shoot fireballs, teleport and have health so she can die. We also have AI path finding for one enemy. That enemy can also shoot and die. Next step is to make them work together. I have some worries though. One of our artists went to USA with a very short notice, leaving us with only one artist left. And I’m worried that artist is under resting the amount of work he has taken on his shoulders. He said he wanted pivoted characters, so you can see them from all sides. But that also means sprites and animations for every direction. It’s over 100 Sprites for each unit, he says he can do it, I’m not doubting his skill I know he can do it. But can he do it within this time limit ? The whole team tried to talk to him, but he is stubborn and certain he can do it. So I gave him a test, make the protagonist now. We’ll see how it goes. I realized I haven’t given an introduction to my project or my team. So here it is: My team consists off two programmers, two artists (maybe one now), Game designer (that’s me) and a project manager. Our project is to make a short Shmup. Our theme is the hunted becomes the hunter. The game is about a witch that get’s chased by a mob and then burned at a stake. She makes a deal with the devil, she get’s more magical powers in order to get her revenge and when she got it her soul belongs to the devil. So the player goes on a killing rampage, getting her revenge killing the people who have made her life a living hell. |
