Day& Night Cycle

It’s been almost three weeks since i wrote something on this blog. Time flies by fast. So we’ve gone through some iterations of the concept of the game during this time. Design wise we shifted focus from the jungle to the island about two weeks ago. In the current version of the game the player gathers supplies form the jungle at day, and at night she needs to defend the island form insects that come to steal the settlers’ food. The player needs to build defenses and traps in order to stop the waves of enemy insects. Each night more insects spawn and the player needs to upgrade their settlers and settlement to survive as long as possible. So I’ve been working on the day/night cycle and the spawning of enemies. The day/night cycle is similar to how Don’t Starve’s day/night cycle works. So one day/night cycle is divided into three phase; day, evening and night. Each phase has a set direction light and lasts a set amount of minutes and then fades to the next phase. During the night waves of giant beetles spawn which attacks the settlers’ food supply and eats their food. When all the beetles are dead, the night fades to day and the cycle repeats.
