WEEK #2 – BIG GAME PROJECT – VISUALS
|
Hi again people! This has been kind of a slow week for me. A couple of other assignments came in between and had to be taken care of. I started out this week by continuing doing high resolution models for the environment. Halfway through something hit me. The art style we had for our game, the visuals we had for our game, did not say anywhere that you were playing as an AI. We had no visual indicators that showed or explained to the player that they are in fact within the computer mainframe. I felt that this did not display our narrative in the right way, and me, being a narrative maniac, had to raise concern. Me, Morgan (Lead Art), Ara (Game Designer) and Andreas (Technical Artist) took a meeting discussing how we could emphasize the narrative into the visuals of the game, by somehow computerize the game. We had a long discussion, and our Lead Art started experimenting with shaders within Unity to achieve somewhat of the effect we were pursuing. I have an early screenshot of what we came up with (displayed below). We will continue working on this next week, and by the end of the week I should have something else I can show you to better explain what we are aiming for. Until then, I will just keep creating assets to fill up the scene with. It is truly great to see the game take shape! This is one of the art styles we tried out for the game. Kind of Shadowrun meets Matrix inspired. We are planning to add some kind of matrix effect to the level as well, but as for now we have the characters built up on data, they are still humans, but this is what F.R.A.U.S sees. The reason why we are proceeding with this style is because it strengthens our narrative on a whole other level. This is a WIP screenshot of what we are working on right now. What we know for sure is that we are going to add an animated background to make sure it is not black and boring, and some more effects to the scene aswell.
Needless to say, I have been working much closer with our game designer and lead art this week, to develop a fitting art style, which has put the modeling as my 2nd priority. Next week I am starting my modeling process again. Until next time! Adam Salonen |
