Week 8-Last Stretch
|
Hey there! Last week before final release. The pressure is ever present and it feels way more invasive than it ever did before. I have mainly focused on some personal affairs and amending the Game Design Document, so I have just done a few minor graphical artifacts. The centre piece is the redesigned scrap sprite. The first one had the look of a rusted and oxidized metal panel with some internal support beams (I think they have a more fancy name but I can not remember right now) sticking out and a paint job, indicating it has been ripped from some larger object. Right: Old Scrap Sprite Left: Newer Version While I liked the initial design, in did not quite gel with the rest of the environment. I based the new design on an idea I had when I first started thinking about what I wanted the Sprite to look like. I took inspiration from motherboards and graphics cards. It helps that my computer has a big window on the side, so I could easily see my reference material when and how I wanted.

Most other assets in the game are fairly low resolution and simple in their design. I wanted some inspiration so I looked at an old game called Bio Menace, released by Apooge Software in 1992. It uses very simple pixel art graphics, much like our game.

The image at the top is the final version, but I made a previous version that was even less detailed. Unfortunately that image has been lost, but I will describe to you how it differed. There was no massive amount of nuance in the colour and the darker shades with even spacing on the left side was not a part of the original design. And with that I dare say that we are finaly finished with the graphics. All that needs to be done now is to make it all work. IfI am not mistaken this will be the last blog post for this project. Overall I would say I am pleased with, not only my work, but the work from every team member. I have worked on a few game projects before and none of them went as well as this one did. Overall I would say that’s pretty good. |
