Week 6 – Cutscenes

This week has been all about adding the final touches to our game. I have been working on the cutscenes these past two weeks before all the animations have been already finished. I already explained quite a few thing about the cutscenes last week but I feel like I have to explain them again. So the reason why we want to add the cutscenes into our game is because we want the player to know what exactly happens in the game. So basically everything happens because our avatar Camaron finds this mysterious magical bow which has been hidden by a certain titan. Realizing this the titan rampages through every city and at last, it senses a presence of the familiar bow and notices that the bearer of the bow is a young woman called Camaron. The titan realizes that he cannot defeat Camaron at it’s current state so long story short, the titan kidnaps Camaron’s younger brother. And Camarons objective is clear now: she has to save her brother.

So for the cutscenes, we wanted to keep it as short as possible but still make everything clear to the player. This is why we decided to create a scene for the bow, the broken city, the titan kidnapping the family member and also an hourglass which represents how much time is left to save Camaron’s brother. We also wanted to add cutscenes in the end, depending if the player has succeeded with the task or not.

First our group started by discussing how the cutscenes were gonna look like. In the beginning we planned that the cutscenes would also be very clear pixel art but after a while we thought maybe it would be better if the cutscenes were really ”sketchy”.

We also decided that we should maybe split the job so all the cutscenes would look like they were made by one person only. So my job was to draw the lines and someone else was supposed to work on the shading part. As for the sketches, there isn’t much to to say. Unfortunately, they look a little bit too simple and plain but after the shading I hope they are going to turn out good!

So here you can see the drawings I made and as you can see they are very sketchy, like we planned! In the broken city I simply wanted it to look destroyed and somewhat haunting. I also wanted to draw the silhouette of the boss in the back so the player get knows what’s coming. The hourglass again represents how there is no time left and there is no time left to save the little brother. The last picture with the bow is something I also worked on last week but I had to redo it a little bit because I made it with clean lines. So ye, this is pretty much what I have been working on this week!
