Blog week 4 -Polish everything!
|
The fourth blog week has started, which means that the Beta deadline is dangerously close. There have not been many hours of sleep this week for many of our team members that’s for sure. Since it’s the Beta deadline, that means that our game has to be feature complete! All our assets has to be done and implemented by Monday. Therefore, at the beginning of this week our entire group sat down together and went through our product backlog to make sure we hadn’t forgotten about any assets or code work. We also went through what needed to be polished or changed among the assets. The result of this go-through basically became all of my work for this week (of which I’ll show two). First of all, I fixed some issues with all the buttons I’ve made for the game over screen. The main thing that I had to deal with was the pictures’ size/resolution. When we started this project all our full screen pictures were ”1920 x 1080”, but a road block on the programmers’ side ended in them changing the render manager. That change meant that the appropriate full screen picture resolution became ”1280 x 720” instead. Because of this my buttons now appeared too big on the screen.
To fix this issue I simply opened a new file in Photoshop in the size 1280 x 720, and put all my buttons in this file. Then all I had to do was organize them on the screen (in the way they are meant to be seen) and adjust their size accordingly.
The second thing I went back to polish was two of the power up sounds. We hadn’t gotten around to implement any of our sound until very recently, which meant that I’d had no way to see how the sound fit into the game until now. As it turned out, two of our power up sounds didn’t really match the speed of the actual power ups.
Thankfully this didn’t take very long to fix. I used the software ”Movie studio platinum” (which is a movie editing software with some audio editing tools in it), and simply cut and speeded it up. I usually get very picky and lost in this process and end up sitting there for hours editing, but I got a hold of myself this time and only spent an hour or two on each sound. That’s all I have for this week! Time to crunch before the Beta is due! -Malin Runsten Fredriksson, Group 9 |
