Week 3 – Sound-effects
|
This week i have been working on making sound-effects for our game Datepocalypse. There is a lot of different sounds that have to be created and unfortunately I’m not very good at sound. The main reason for me to handle the sound in the game is that noone else has any time for it at this moment. It’s not a good reason, but it is the reason our group have for letting a not so very qualified person do the sound-effects. We have had some test sounds in the game sense the alpha but those are unfortunately copyrighted and we aren’t allowed to use them in the final product. We thought that it was time to implement some sound that we were allowed to use and that is why I started creating sound-effects this week. For starters I had no idea where to look for sound that we could or were allowed to use, but after a quick google search I found that there were alot of sites who offered copyright free music/sound. So that was a good start but most of them were’t very good and there was no good way of finding what I was looking for. (I had no idea what I was looking for in the beginning which made it even harder.) But after going through a number of sites I then stumble on a youtube-channel who had a lot of copyright free sound-effects for anyone to use. Sense it was a youtube-channel it was very easy to listen to all the sound-effects fast cause of the youtube playback function. Even though there was a lot of sound-effects I had no use for, I found some useful ones and that made me get started at least.
A bit later into the week i found a software that could make new sound-effects just by |
I used Audacity to tweak to the sound-effects once I had downloaded them and listen to them many times since many if them was for the projectile, and I didn’t want the sound to be annoying when used frequently. Another issue I had was that I didn’t really know how I wanted to different artifacts in the game to sound. But after listening to different sound-effects without looking at the title i became much easier to imagine the sound with a particular artifact. For example a sound-effect of a rock getting smashed could be the perfect sound for our projectiles but I only listened with something getting hit in mind.
