[5SD033] Second power-up: Love Baseball

Another week has passed and a lot of things has been added, modified and reconsidered. Both I and the other programmers have been refactoring the code, mostly it was a matter of moving code from one place to it’s proper place, e.g: adding new classes. Except refactoring code, I have also been working on our second power-up: The Love Baseball. This power-up is pretty different from or first one (which I wrote about in my previous post). This power-up can be compared to a shotgun in most shooter games, it’s super strong against grouped enemies since it has a large spread. When you first activate the power-up, one of your characters pick up a baseball bat (from her pockets I suppose), lets call her character A. Then your second character, character B, throws an baseball to character A. When the ball reaches A’s bat, A hits the ball forward with bat, towards the end of the screen. And since a single shot isn’t that amazing we decided that the ball will split into three different balls when hit by the bat. These three balls will move forward with a little bit of gap between each other, until they are outside of the screen or they have traveled a certain distance. Right now it’s almost four times the length of a character. In case of one of the balls hits an enemy, damage will be dealt to the enemy and the ball will continue to move in it’s current direction. The damaged dealt by the ball will is based on the distance between character A and B. Right now I have implemented the collision between the balls and enemies, ball movement and dealing damage to the enemies. Things that might be add later is some kind of animation if the graphic artists have the time needed to create the art before the final release. Also some kind of particles would be nice to have. And last but not least we need sound. As I talked about previously, this power-up/skill is mostly useful against grouped enemies (as seen in the picture), but I also think it could be good against bosses (which we are aiming to add, but have not had time to work on before this was posted). I really think it could be good with it’s spread versus the boss large hitbox. But this is something I and the rest of the team need to discuss so we can balance the game properly. |
