[5SD033] First power-up: Love Boomerang

One week has passed since I wrote my last blog post, and now it’s time again as promised. It has been a busy week with much work which had to been done. We didn’t get as much work done as planned, but enough to still be on track. The reason behind this is because we had to change our deadlines for some pf the tasks in the backlog. Luckily you learn from your mistakes, from project to project.

So the main task I have been working on this week is the first power-up we want to implement, The Love Boomerang. In a future release you will be able to pick up the boomerang, which will be an item dropped by a killed enemy. Then when used you will throw the boomerang between the ”thrower”, the character who picked up the item, and your partner. The boomerang will follow an arc shaped pattern between the characters. We have also thought about the idea that the partner will be able to grab the boomerang and save it for a later use, this will both add a challenge and, if well executed, hopefully make the feeling of a love relationship between the characters stronger.

Right know you will be able to throw the boomerang between your characters, and when the boomerang has arrived a certain point it will start to move back to the thrower. It will not move back in a straight line to the thrower, instead it will follow the same path it used while moving to the partner. Lastly when the boomerang arrives to it’s starting position it will just disappear. In case of the boomerang  hits an enemy, the enemy will die instantly and same goes for the boomerang. This will probably change before our beta release, but will stay as it is until we had time balance it.

At first this might seem like a odd and almost completely useless power-up, but that will hopefully not be the case. Since our plan right now is to add a second enemy who is  equipped with a shield. You will not be able to penetrate this shield with normal projectiles, and since you only will be able to shoot straight forward with your characters normal projectiles (we might add upgradeable projectiles in the future, this is something we have not decided yet)  you will have to use this to get more kills which will lead to a higher score.
