Group 7, Update Potato Pirates
|
As this is my first real post in this blog I want to begin with a quick summary of our assignment. Our game and my responsibilities in the group. Our assignment is to create a working game from a concept document that another group has done. ANd a milestone so to speak is to create a design document for this game. The concept we chose where Potato Pirates. It is set in the year of 1920, during the time of the prohibition in the United States of America. Its about the two entrepreneurs Nellie” the Dot” Nelson who is an excellent pilot and the farmer Elijah Booze. And they are smuggling moonshine across the border while trying to avoid law enforcements. My position in the group is as the Lead Art designer. I have spent a lot of time with the concept art for the game, among others, the design of the characters. Even if they are there just for the narrative, it has an impact on the feeling we want the player to feel. There appropriate for the timeline and so on. Ive also been the QA for all the art and i have had the final say when it comes to artistic decisions.

And now, on to the weekly update. The deadline for the hand in of our design document is approaching rapidly. With this in mind, a lot of my time has been spent on finishing the design document. However I have also finished the design and the sprite sheet of one of our stationary enemies. The “Led” Zeppelin. Our idea is that it should be easy to avoid if the player is careful. It doesn’t present any threat to the player in terms of firepower but it has a lot of HP and if it spot the player, it will signal other enemies. In short it works as a watchtower. When designing the zeppelin, the challenge was to make it look like not just a big gray baloon that just happen to be there. The player should immediately see that it is an enemy. With this in mind I put on some flags with the same colour as the other enemy fighters as well as the same logotype. However, other things we could do is to make it darker in order to make it more intimidating. But i choose not to do it darker before seeing it in the alpha motor, It should be easy to spot and if it is to dark, that will not be the case. |
