Tasteful Games
|
So I’m starting a new blog on behalf of the startup I am involved in – Tasteful Games. We’re a small company, currently 6 people who are planning to make games, both analogue and digital. All of us who work here are students of game design at Uppsala University and we love games far too much to do just video games or just board games. There are other reasons too of course. Board gaming is currently where it’s at with a market on the rise, new exciting possibilities for small studios to produce amazing content. Board games are also a very innovation driven market where new and unproven mechanics can get an honest chance on the market. Something that doesn’t quite hold true for video games. Another reason is that video games are quite expensive to produce, even the small ones, and they take quite a lot of time to finish. We’re looking to making board and card games as a way of releasing products that generate income in the short term, while pushing bigger digital projects out the door in the long term. As game designers we build a lot of prototypes, both for digital and analogue games. To us the paper prototyping process is an essential part of any production. As we’re making games in both the real and virtual realms we’re hoping that innovation in either field may inform and inspire the other through a common prototyping language. We are also theorizing that making games in the analogue realm where mechanics constantly evolve and change without any real fear of becoming ”too innovative” we may keep a similar innovative spirit in the digital. Our first digital game is being planned right now and we’ll use this blog space (and others I hope), to give you an insight into that later this year. Our first board game is currently being prototyped under the moniker ‘Contractors’ and I’ll be talking more about that very soon. Postat i:Okategoriserade |
