Snow Day Mayhem – this week’s progress
|
I’ve gotten a lot done this week! My main focus has been the powerups, both art and sound, and the victory screen. So for the powerups we have things like hot chocolate, which gives you a speed boost, freeze, which freezes a player, ice skates, which makes a player swirl around uncontrollably, mistletoe, which makes two players stick together, salt, which makes a player’s snowball smaller, and marshmallows, which slows down players. In total we have 12 powerups planned, but we’re aiming for 8 at first, and then we’ll see if we can implement more. For the freeze powerup I wanted a sound similar to the frost spells in Skyrim. I wanted there to be howling wind, cracking ice and tingling. I was able to combine three sounds like this to make the effect I want. For the ice skates I made a more cartoony sound of a punch and sliding across ice. I wonder if I have made the majority of the sounds too ”realistic” in comparison to how cartoony and goofy the game is. It’s very difficult to tell when the sounds aren’t in the game, so it will have to be playtested. In the victory screen, the player with the biggest snowball will have the biggest snowman, and their avatar will be standing next to it. We wanted several different versions of each snowman, so that’s what I’ve been doing! There are four different sizes of snowmen, and each snowman exists in four colors (one color for each player avatar), and each color has four different variants that are randomly selected! I hope that makes sense! Anyway, here are all the snowmen I’ve done this week: and the players, for each place: |
