New Course, new project!
|
We are now on our third week in the new course. This course is called Theme Park and we have ten weeks to get our games ready for GGC (Gotland Game Conference). Our first pitch was about a chef inspired game but it turned out to be a little too much with all 54 inputs and too much mechanics that could break. So we decided to overhaul.. again, and start at square one after all the time we spent on the first idea. We began brainstorming again and now nothing seemed to catch our interests. Eventually we went about it by starting at what inputs were possible (for those who are not familiar with gaming terms, input simply means what device is used to play the game.) and tried to come up with a fitting game play. I then got the idea of buttons around a big screen that the player would have to press in order to make things happen on certain positions on the screen. This was the start of our current project “Save The Penguins”. Unfortunately we dropped the buttons and simply have a touchscreen and gyro as our inputs now. So here is the idea: The player plays has to rescue a penguin family and get them to safety from the melting snow and other dangers. The player has a limited amount of snow that will be placed by simply dragging the finger on screen. Then the penguins has to be guided on the ice path by tilting the screen. The penguins will then start to glide in the tilted direction, but be careful, you do not want them to slide of into the ocean! There will be puzzles for the player to solve on each level. The difficulty will increase with the levels. There are current discussions about details in the levels, like do we want to pick up other penguins along the way? Once we get the basic core loop going these things will be easier determined. Here is an example of a baby penguin and our menu |
