Weekly assignment #6 – The last two animations.

Hello again people!

This is my final post for this course and game project. To summarize I feel that we have done a good job, bouncing back from some set backs, and delivering a finished product that we can be proud of. I am not going to lie, I have taken the long road a bunch of times, leaving time wasted that could be put on something else. But I have learned from my mistakes, and I know what I am going to do to avoid these situations in my future game projects.

I have done two animations this week. Since our projectile in our game is the mole throwing a stone at the gardener, leaving it stunned, I decided to make a cartoonish stun-like animation for the projectile. When the stone hits the gardener, he or she will be stunned for X seconds. Here is the animation!

As you can see there are small moles and stars circuling the head of the gardener, which is a result of being hit by the projectile (the stone).

The final animation I did was not expected at all. Since one of our coders managed to make another AI (Where the gardener actually chases the mole when he surfaces above ground), he wanted me to make a surprise like animation that the gardener triggers when he sees the mole. I decided to go a different direction, and I made the gardener angry instead. This time I also made a very cartoonish take on the animation, take a look!

This triggers right before the chasing begins, leaving the player to change direction real quick before the gardener starts the chase.

This course has learned me alot about game making, and I’m not only talking about how to make a game, but also all the factors surrounding it. e.g. how to operate in a group, how to document everything using a system called SCRUM, what mistakes can be made and how to avoid them in the future, and so much more! I am really starting our next course (which is to make a complete game from the ground up) with a bunch of knowledge I didn’t have before, and that will save me a lot of time that I can use on something useful. I am the producer in the next course and I am going to prioritize communication, to avoid mistakes, and unnecessary work that didn’t really have to be made.

Thank you for following my journey in this project!

Yours sincerely,

Adam
