Week 9 Scrum review.
|
Hello everyone! This post is a review of the method called Scrum.
These are some of the points I will bring up in this post. 1. Scrum is a method of working were you set up a product backlog that is then turned into a sprint plan for a set amount of week, usually every 4th week, that will contain everything you are going to do through out the week. You could say that it is a large to-do list that turns into smaller to-do lists that gives the team members and publishers a greater insight of how the project is going. Each day the group members will meet together for a “daily stand-up meeting”. This meeting will be done in less than 5 minutes therefore it is called “stand up” meeting. This meeting will be a form of report in and the only question you need to answer is. What did I work on? What do I need to continue? What am I going to work on today? This meeting will make sure everyone is proceeding exactly as it should and if there is something that is really needed, it can be corrected directly. After the set amount of weeks has passed the group is called together again for a new sprint meeting, but before the sprint planning starts you have to do a sprint review. The sprint review is were everyone presents what they have been doing and how long it actually took. Here you will easily see who have not done their part of the work. After this the next sprint starts and the cycle continuous. This image shows how the cycle of scrum is done. 2. How did this method help us? The best thing about Scrum is that you get complete oversight of what everyone is doing and what you need to do. It makes sure that everyone is pulling their weight each week. It also helps the group to see that they are making progression. When you go back to the product backlog and you only see green markers after all the hard work you have put in, that my friends, that is the most satisfying thing too see. This help everyone to stay on the same side of the project because every sprint meeting we had we added tasks that would help everyone. In example if the programmers is going to work on animation manager. Then it would be the most sane thing to do as a graphics artist to work on the animations for the character and as we saw how far the programmers had come through scrum we could adjust our work so it was done at the same time. Giving it the most efficient production time as possible. Having the product backlog there all the time was also a great thing as it showed how much more work we had to do and if it was some features that were not close to done and that we would not have the time to do we would just cut it and focus on the more important stuffs. 3. For this course we had to use Googles drives excel program. This was a clunky and aged way to do it as there are some better platforms for scrum on the internet, but this help us understand how to organize everything by hand. Giving us a better understanding on how Scrum works. 4. The main weakness of scrum is if its not updated all the time. Then the whole concept of scrum falls apart and it just becomes a regular to-do list. 5. We will be using Scrum for Theme park but instead of doing it the aged way we will be using Trello.com. A free scrum planning platform on the internet. It makes everything look like a big board of sticky notes and each note is assigned to a member were they can update on the progress easily. Final verdict for Scrum: It is awesome! Thanks for reading! |
