week 9, Game Design

This week was a mixed week. I have been sick on and off for two weeks now and tried to get as much work done as possible. I did not work on any sounds this week and went back to helping out with the art. I am making the starting screen and menu screen this week. I thought of some different designs but decided to go with a wooden board hanging from two ropes. The options are gonna turn up as markings in the wood.

I am gonna make a few extra options for buttons. If we get to incorporate them depends on how far the programmers get before finals but I figured better safe than sorry. Since I was sick I will have to work hard this weekend now that I am finally starting to feel better. The current state of our project is uncertain since I have not gotten to test out what we have so far. I think we have the dryad walking around, being able to place towers (plants), and the enemies are spawning  and goes for the player. There is only one enemy type implemented tho. I will spend the last week of this project trying to get a somewhat complete game and I will ask the programmers what needs to be done, since they have a better idea of what they will have time to implement. Hopefully we will be able to get all of the core features done. As if for now, there are no win or fail states. So that is on our priority list.

I must say that I am still proud of our groups achievements with all the things that backfired. We lost two programmers and the ones we have left had to struggle a lot. We are still three graphics students so we did not have any trouble keeping up the pace. It was rather the opposite. But that made us struggle with what we were gonna do this last few weeks. It all now depends on ho far we are programming- wise. It feels unnecessary spending time on something we wont have time to use anyway. Everyone of us have had our ups and downs during the project but we will continue until we finish. Hopefully we we get new and fresh starts with Theme Park and can put all of our new wisdom to use. Even if the projects do not always turn out the way you expected it to there is always something to learn from it. And I am quite sure I can handle work in groups a little bit better than before. So keep your fingers crossed for us next week!
