Magic Writer Menu Background
|
Hello Magic Writer fans! So this week is the last blog post for the course. I am going to write about the latest iteration of the background to our Main Menu. It is still a little bit work in progress but the main part of it I feel is done. I made a lot of iterations on it, I was not really happy with many of the early ones that I did. I did unfortunately not save them to show in this post, so you will just have to trust me. I had instructions from our lead design on what he wanted to have on the screen. He wanted monsters coming in from the ocean, the wizard and people running away from the threat. It is quite hard with limited drawing experience to make a 1920*1080 scenery with the beach, ocean and sky. I also wanted to have the feel of the cartoony to remain throughout the picture. I still have not captured this 100% but I think I am close enough now. One hard thing was making the cloud look cartoony, first I did not bother with the cartoon look and the clouds looked more real. But they just did not sit right. I also used the same brush for the sand as I used for the sky and tried to work from brighter to darker with the flow and opacity turned way down in Photoshop. The result I got was not satisfying and it all just kind of looked messy, so in the end I just went with a gradient from white to blue. It does not look perfect but it suits a cartoony look better I feel. The ocean I did with some blue and green, wanting to maintain the southern ocean feel – he is on a warm vacation after all. I used special brushes to create the shadows in the ocean to represent living plants under the surface. For the wizard I took our original design and redrew him to make him fit with my style of drawing, and the people on the beach are just some wacky cartoony characters that I wanted to look funny. The monsters are not the final version of them so I did not put as much time and effort into that part of the menu as I will most likely have to redo it anyway. The waves that they create also needs more work. Anyways here it is, enjoy! |
