Dragon Song Blogpost 6

It has been a stressful week. Courses are coming to an end and there is a lot of things that I need to finish. Due to this lack of time, the new dragon design and animation for our game did not end up looking the way I had hoped it would, but I am still moderately satisfied with the result.

Dragon

The first version of the dragon was created in a hurry. I did not have that many thoughts about how it was going to look, I just created what I thought was a dragon. The previous dragon that we had for the game, had horns and a furry tail, so I decided that this one might as well have it too. As for the addition of the shades, it was late at night and I was to tired to draw proper eyes, so I added some tinted glasses to cover it up. Although it was initially unintentional, I think the end result looked better and it fit with what the game has become.

The reactions from the group concerning this new dragon was varied. Some liked it, some did not and thought we should stick with the old one. It was discussed and in the end we decided to continue with the new one, but with some slight modifications. The colors needed to change because the dragon blended too well with the background of the game, so I did some variations.

The coloring is rough and there is not that many different variations, but this is yet again due to lack of time. The red dragon to the right was discarded immediately. I do not even think there was any discussion at all about it. Instead, the discussion became about the original blue and the orange dragon. The orange dragon fit with the background and it stands out as well. The blue dragon still blends to much with the background. The dragon in the bottom left corner was a result of this discussion, where I tried to keep the blue color but still make stand out a bit more. I made the fur brighter and the underside of the wing the same colors as the orange dragon. I was not pleased with the result, so I decided to go with the orange one in the middle.

When it came time to animate the dragon, I decided to not make an animation where the dragon flaps its wings. Instead, due to time, I decided that it was enough to have it glide through the air. But I decided that I needed to save even more time, so the base body does not really change and only the parts affected by the wind is animated.

And here is the finished dragon animation!
