Artifact 6 – Logo

ARTIFACT 6 – LOGO
in Dash BAT

Nine weeks has now passed since my team 12 and I started the Space Shooter Project “Dash Bat”. The original concept was designed by Team 7. The Beta is over and we only have one week left before the game should be fully finished and playable. I am really excited!

I am starting to feel abit emotional about finally being done with the development of Dash Bat. We have had our ups and downs in the team but I feel like we have been on a long but great ten week journey and we have learnt alot in the process.
Anyway, let us get back to talking about the artifact for this week’s blog entry. This ninth week I was going to talk about something I made a long time ago, the Logo for Dash Bat. The Team Logo however I made right before the Alpha presentation in order to make the powerpoint look good and more personal and to represent our team.

The original name for our game was Heartbeat Bat and I wanted to make something out of that. That was why I created this purple logo. (to the left). I wanted to make the logo stand out so I transformed the A in BAT to a bat with spread out wings embracing the rest of the three letters. For effect I added some blood dripping down the B and T. At this time we had not figured out a new name idea for our game. I liked the idea of having a name with only three sillibils. Next I created a logo with only BAT and called the game “BAT the Game”. However the rest of the team did not like the idea of the name but since we did not have a better name at that time I went with experimenting with the BAT logo I already had, removing “HeartbeaT”. I still had the logo in color and I started to feel irritated by the many details and wanted a more clean result. That was when I came up with to make the entire logo into a siluette. The result was successful, clean and I got rid of the many details.

Later in the project we added the “dash ability”. This was an ability that would be on Cooldown and once it was out of CD the player would be able to double tap in any direction and the bat would get teleported to this location in a very fast motion. Because of this ability which was going to be one of our main abilities in the game, we decided to call our game Dash Bat. My final step was to replace the Heartbeat text to Dash. I wanted to save the style of typing so I left the idea of having the first and last letters being capital. In order to make the text fit I experimented with different fonts until I found a fitting one. I changed its height and added a perspective to it. This way the Dash looked like it was stretching towards the wings of the siluette bat. In my oppinion it also gave the feeling of action the way I choose to lean the perspective. I drew and added this background that is also part of our main menu in order to create a cosy mood for this blog entry. And here is the final result!

The team logo however is not that exciting of a story. One day before the Alpha presentation I thought that having a team logo would look kind of neat on our presentation. We did not and do still not have a proper name for our team so I just used the number and changed it to roman numbers to make it look abit more artistic than just numbers. The siluette is from our avatar bat in idle state made by the artist and my team mate Tara Sundström.

It has truly been ten amazing weeks developing my first real game. Alot of blood, sweat and tears but it has been worth it. I am looking forward to be able to post the game file for uploading so that you can play the game by yourself! Thank you for reading and following my weeks through the Dash Bat project.
And thank you Team XII, Kim, Anders, Tara and Marwan. I have had ten awesome weeks working on this project together with you. I have learnt alot!  I will for sure take that with me for the future.

And that folks, will be all I have to say for this time! See you in my next project.
