Less than good week…
|
This week I have been doing minor stuff. I haven’t done much since I shall not continue this education after the summer. But since I have just done some minor stuff this week, then I shall just write about the making of a power up that I made to the group.
We talked about in the group that we wanted to have a power up in the form of a disco ball that auto target and destroy the enemy. I started with scouting the internet for a cartoony look on a disco ball. After some time I stumbled upon a good looking design on the disco ball in an online game that have slipped my mind as I am writing this blog post. As I had a similar design on my disco ball, then I added thicker lines in the outer section of the sphere. I wanted the disco ball to have some correlation to the background that we have for the game. I mixed a silver color with the dark blue color we had on the background and this game we a darker gray color which I added to the disco ball. I also added some lighter and darker variations to the gray that I got to have a more “sphere” looking disco ball rather than a “circle” disco ball.
I later had to design the projectile that would shoot out from the disco ball. After asking the group, we decided on a half circle that would shoot out from the disco ball and grow as it flew down towards the enemy. After I had about 6 frames of the projectile, then I had to add sparkles so that it would give the disco ball a spinning look without having to put too much effort in animation it spinning as well. I also had the idea of making it look like that the ball was channeling the projectile from sparkles and then shoot out the projectile. I made a simple sparkle design and added this into the animation. I thought myself to be done by now, but I didn’t seem to find the look that I was after. I had felt this coming from some time ago, but my interest and enthusiasm wasn’t there anymore. This was a big hinder in my work during the past weeks and have paused my progression due to that I really did not want to continue. But I had kept going for the sake of my team mates. I know that they have worked hard and if I had quit, then a lot more work had to be put on their shoulders. This I did not want so I kept myself going and pushed myself to my limit. In the end, the disco ball that I created to my team was not put into the game, which was understandable. It lacked that depth and feeling that it would have if an enthusiastic graphical designer had been working on it.
This did not however bother me. I knew that my luster for drawing and creating was gone for now and that my contribution to the team this week would not be as good as it could have been. But if someone were to gain something my struggle, then I would give them the advice of work only on that you know that is within your own skill level. The task would otherwise drain you completely and you would only let your team down.
This might be the last blog that I will write due to my leave this summer. But if it is required of me, then I shall continue the posts until the course is done. I will also leave a gif of the power up I made in the end of this. Enjoy? |
