Pickups

This week we made some of our pickups. Our pickups represent our score in the game. The pickups are our valuables in Otto von fancy’s house that does not grant you any bonuses or provide you with any other perks. These valuables are only useful for providing you with money when you turn them in at your drop point. The powerups are also worth money and can be dropped at the drop point for a big reward unless they have been consumed/broken. In the hud you will see the powerups represented as icons. If you choose to use an item it will break, so the player need to strategicly use his powerups. Using the bear rug might enable you to avoid otto at a crucial moment in order to access riches worth far beyond what the bear rug will be worth. The following are some of our pickups. Medal 75 $. Wad of cash 100 $. Wallet 95 $
Gems 180 $.
Golden silverware 80 $.
Golden pens 20$.
Rings 40 $.
Gold watches 200 $. Moneybag 150 $. Necklace 60 $. Gold Coins 20 $. We also have our powerups that are worth a little extra. Bear rug 250 $ Suit of armor 700 $ Clock 400 $ Vase 600 $ Amulet 200 $ Sword 1000 $ We are still tweaking the numbers on our pickups. We received a lot of feedback from our first playtesting and some of the comments were about the valuables. Some people wanted us to have insane amounts of score on pickups. Like pick up a clock and get 100 000 000 dollars. Our lead designer is in charge of this and any numbers are due to change. We wanted all the pickups to be golden or shiny so that the player would always know what’s of value and what’s just useless props like plants or chairs. Our HUD will show you a money meter which will tell you when you have reached your gold goal. This is when you can exit the level or you can keep playing to get every piece of gold on the map. Combined with a good time, you can then get a high score. You can have a maximum number of pickups. 15 of them. You can also carry one heavy powerup or powerdown. In order to get more items you need to head to the drop point and dump the gold and powerups alternatively use the powerups. We did this so that people wouldn’t just rush right through the map and picking up everything instantly.  |
