Space Shooter Project. Blog 2. Potential challenges.

So this blog post is going to be significantly less informative and with a bit more speculations than the previous one. This is due to the fact that the work I have done recently have been documenting our game which isn’t much of an actual game artifact. I have however started working on some outlines for potential challenges involving our score system in combination with different enemies. To understand this you need to be aware of how some of our core enemy mechanics work as well as our score system. For information about the score system as well as a quick summary of the game play read my previous blog post at: https://ulfulfsson.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=12&action=edit&message=6&postpost=v2 I will try to explain some of the other core feature throughout this blog post to explain my reasoning.
Above is an example of a challenge combining three different type of enemies. The images represents the same location of a larger map. The top image is what the surface looks like. The bottom image is what the underground looks like. Here is a quick explanation of what is in the images. M = Mole. This is the player. The position on the map is simply an example position. G = Gardener. An enemy patrolling the surface. The RED areas are the gardeners potential detection area. This might move in other directions should he detect and object. The arrows shows the movement direction. E = Eagle. An enemy patrolling the surface. The BLUE areas is the eagles trigger area. The arrows shows the movement direction. S = Sonic trap. An enemy on the surface that blocks your path underground. The circles and the green area indicates where the blocking effect is. To remove the underground blocking effect you have to shoot a projectile on the sonic trap on the surface. Rock = A rock that blocks your path underground. Rock Indicator = Simply shows that you can’t dig beneath the ground at this position. The Number Grid = A cluster of scores. The different number represents different valued vegetables. So a quick rundown of this. As the mole you want to collect the score. You have to be on the surface to collect score. So the location of the mole on the map is not the starting location, which means you have to get there by moving. This is primarily done in the underground to avoid the threat of the gardener and the eagle. So assuming the player starts at the suggested location underground, he is now blocked by the sonic trap. The player have to proceed to the surface to shoot a projectile rock at the sonic trap. When going to the surface you risk provoking the gardener. Even if you do not provoke the gardener you will steal leave a hole after going up to the surface. The hole will work as a trigger for the gardeners agro and by doing this will move the gardener out of his patrol route and thus move the trigger range into the same area as the eagle. By that double the potential threat around the score cluster. An additional challenge would be should you aim to collect higher score. In this case you need to think of the score order which means you would have to go underground again and the move into the corner, go back up and by that creating another hole. After that you would need to pick up the score in the correct order while under the threat of the eagle and the potential of the gardener as well. |
