Creating an alpha presentation

Every group in the class are supposed to hold a presentation about their game project before demonstrating a playable alpha version of the game. The presentation needs to answer a few questions about how the project has gone so far and what our next goal is. As I am the producer, it is my responsibility to create it.

I am creating the presentation with help from the Sound Designer. Together we are discussing how we will answer the questions. As the Sound Designer is the one to hold the speech, he is writing a manuscript from our answers. I am wrapping it all up into a visual presentation that will follow his speech.

As there will be a lot of groups holding presentations, I want to make sure that we stand out from the crowd. Even if it does not make any clear difference if we stand out or not, it would be fun if people remembered our game after the presentation. I think it is boring to see slide after slide containing text. So I am using a special presentation software that zooms around one big image, instead of the standard slide-design. This should really keep the audience interested in whats going on during the speech.

I also wanted the design of the presentation to look like our game. So I am using our concept art to give the feeling of being in the game. The background really is the same as used in our alpha version, and you can see some enemies and dragons from the game as well. The whole presentation follows a spiral of bubbles containing some of the concept art and ending with the player character Riff who is facing the enemies. I chose this design to symbolize our game evolving from concept into a real, playable game.

The presentation will be used to tell the other groups how our game project is going. As we tell the audience about how we have solved some problems that we have had during the project, people might get inspired and hopefully they will hear something useful that can help them in their project. As we demo our playable alpha version, the audience will see how far we have gone with our game and can therefore compare it with their own to see if they are before, on or behind schedule.

I am looking forward to see how it is going for the other groups!
