2D-Graphics, Theory and Application II: Week 1 + Week 2
|
First week in the new graphics course! We pretty much picked up where we left it off with 2D-Graphics, Theory and Application I. Week 1: The first week consisted of repeating some perspective practices. For our home assignment that week we had to first, draw our kitchen in either 1- or 2-point-perspective and then redesign it according to an existing IP. I have to admit that with the project taking up so much of our time and with the assignments being more implicitly relevant than directly relevant to that project, I ended putting much less time into them than I otherwise would have. But anyway, for the first part I chose a 2-point perspective, drawing the kitchen I took a reference photo and drew over it. Then I moved the vanishing points to fit into the picture and re-drew the kitchen, skewing everything to fit the new vanishing points, cleaned it up a little and threw in a few shadows for good measure. Because of the narrow distance between the vanishing points the picture looks a little “twisted”.
Then came the fun part, redesigning! I chose Blizzard’s card-based strategy game HearthStone as the IP to base the redesign on. Due to time-constraints I didn’t have the chance to do it entirely the way I envisioned it but this is what is so far:
That’s all for Week 1! Week 2: During the second week we repeated some things about space and composition and how the entire story in a picture can change by moving some shapes closer together, change their direction or size. We did a couple of exercises on both this and creating distinct silhouettes for your characters. The exercise sheets are pretty large and similar exercises can be found elsewhere on the internet so I won’t be uploading them here. Toodles! |
