3D week 05 – Final Crate

Hello!
This is the final post about my crate and my first assignment in 3D graphics 1.
A 3D model often consists of at least four parts. The mesh which is the actual 3D model, the diffuse map which is the texture that holds all the colours, the specular map which tells the secularity of  different parts of the object, and last the normal map which contains information making details look realistic and not like “stickers”.
A diffuse map is basically a 2D […]

Somniatis

Yesterday I was in my first game jam! It wasn’t that long, only from ten in the morning to six in the evening. My team was mostly people from my class and one guy from the second year, and the theme we got was Addiction X.
I was the only one who had made games in Gamemaker before, so I had to program pretty much everything even though I would’ve preferred to do the graphics. But oh well, it was fun, […]

3D week 5

Right! It’s been a stressful week after Dreamhack, but I think I’m finally beginning to catch up again! So here we have the final version of the crate with the Diffuse map, Specular map and Normal map included.

And here is the crate without normal map or specular map for comparison!

So what are the main differences with and without normal and specular maps? Well, firstly the normal map adds more depth to certain areas, the […]

3D week 4

For week 4 we have textured the crate that we optimized! This blog post is coming out a little bit later than I had originally hoped since I went to Dreamhack, and in doing so I lost a couple of days worth of 3D practice.
When I was looking at my crate, I felt like I wanted to really distinguish the separate planks really well. The way I decided to go about this was by marking the edges of the planks […]

Board Game Peer Review: Portobello Market

For this week of the game analysis course, my group was tasked with playing Portobello Market and reviewing what Group 2 had written about the game.
This post is a review of Anton L’s analysis of the game, which can be read here.

Basic Game Summary
Portobello Market is a game for two to four players where you place market stalls along the streets of a city to collect points. A player’s turn can consist of up to four actions, depending on […]

Board Game Review 2# – Betrayal at House on the Hill

The Core Game System: I agree that the core system is the player/character movement. It’s what moves the game’s story forward, and if the players didn’t move around there wouldn’t be any new […]

Week 40: Diffuse, Specular and Normal Mapping

This week has been very eventful, but by no means tedious. With an optimised crate model good to go I could proceed with applying texture to it. It seemed to be a daunting endeavour at first, with so many new terms and methods to learn from scratch. I couldn’t be more wrong as my work progressed. This was accomplished by three simple steps: making a Diffuse, Specular and at last a Normal map.
Diffuse

First I began with the Diffuse, which […]
