Welcome to my blog!
Hello and welcome to my blog. My name is Fredrik Engström and I study Game Design & Programming @ Uppsala University Campus Gotland. This blog will record what I do with my assignments, how I do them and what I learn from them.
As of right now, I have no prior experience with programming and very little of game design. I have however, some experience with modding and level design… I hope to change this (and so it shall).
Stay tuned

First week 3d class
This picture is a scene from some kind of Batman game, I haven’t played it myself so therefore I can only go with what I am seeing in order to analyse. The first thing that caught my eye is the absence of horizontal and vertical lines and how the picture screams ACTION! The tilted perspective creates diagonal lines all over the scene. And the bright areas of the character on top really pull the attention towards the foreground.
The background […]

First week of 3D computer graphics!
Analyzing screenshots
During my class’ first week of the 3D course we were assigned to analyze 4 different screenshots taken from different games using the 7 elements of Art that we practiced during last terms’ 2D course. One interesting thing to note is how by just looking closely at still pictures from games you’ve never played you can still tell pretty much how the action sequences, the characters, the world and how game itself is going to be played out.

3D Computer Graphics: First week.
The first week of the 3D course is finished, and we have been going through different elements of art and how they are used in 3D environments.
We also did an analysis on different screenshots from various games to find how they’ve used the elements of art: Lines, Shapes, Space, Values, Colors and Texture.
1: BATMAN
In this picture of Dc’s character Batman. We can see that it is meant to be very dramatic, having the camera look up towards Batman standing […]

Week 36
Week 36 almost over.
Finished first assignment and took on the responsibility of being referee in a D&D scenario. Which I’ve never done before.

First Week of 3D Computer Graphics: Theory and Application I
During our first class we were tasked with analyzing certain screenshots using some Elements of Art. These elements were: Line, Shapes, Space, Value, Color and Texture.
Developer: Warner Bros. Games Montréal Publisher: Warner Bors. Interactive Entertainment Release: 2013
Batman: Arkham Origins
The lines in this composition are mainly diagonal which creates a sense of movement, heroism and determination. To create these feelings, the camera’s perspective is slightly slanted and it’s also looking upwards at Batman.
The shapes mainly consist of man-made objects. […]
