Game Design and Graphics

This will be my work and studies blog for my three years here at Uppsala University Campus Gotland.
Immediately when the first course started I knew I’d found a really good programme. It was just design, design, design, from the get-go.
So now I’m two weeks in and the pace hasn’t dropped. It’s both challenging and a lot of fun. This week we are going over the last steps of the basics about the design process and then we’ll start making our […]

Idea

Alright. The weekend assignment was to come up with a rudimentary idea for a game.
So here goes.
”Cushion This!”
A fart cushion game.
Designed for an audience of 6-12.
You go around hiding fart cushions in various places.
Aesthetics would be comedy, with the challenge of not getting caught.
Mechanics used would support stealth.
The target of your cushioning have random actions (such as going for some coffee) to allow the player a chance to perform his prank.

First week of 3D1!

Hello again! I am back from summer and will now start up this blog again. Last week was the first week of our 3D1 course here at campus gotland.
Our first assignment was to discus and analyzes different screenshots from different games in groups of 4.
I am going to give a link to all the screen shots at the end so you can view them in its original size.

Screenshot one: Batman

This screenshot is geometric. Though a bit too much. If […]

3D I – Week 2

This week we modeled three variations of crates, where each was supposed to be inspired by a different theme. These themes were Sci-Fi, Cartoonish, Medieval, Post-Apocalyptic and Urban Contemporary. This was to illustrate how objects may have more or less radically different models to relate the theme.
The three themes that I chose were Medieval, Sci-Fi and Urban Contemporary.
Medieval
The first crate I did was supposed to be within the Medieval theme, and was therefore of a rather simplistic, yet […]

3D Week 2 – Creating Crates

Greetings!
So, as the title suggests This week of 3D class, we’ve been creating crates. Three crates to be exact. One theme for each crate.
#1 Sci-fi
The pure characteristics of science fiction is sterile surfaces and everything having a function, except for lights, lights are just put all over the place because it looks cool. Oh, and control panels! Everything needs control panels. Often this theme uses simple, geometric shapes with smooth textures.

This is concept art from the upcoming game Star Citizen. […]

3D Computer Graphics I: Week 2

This week we worked with different visual styles and tried to make our own props while following one of these styles. I have chosen to look at the Cartoon, Sci-Fi and Post-Apocalyptic styles.
Cartoon
Cartoon style games are mainly focusing on portraying a simplified caricatured version of reality. The visual style of cartoony games is dominated by basic, slightly irregular shapes and vibrant colors. These games are also for the most part high key which feels natural due to all the colors. […]

3D-1 Week 2: Assignment 1 – Modeling crates

Second week of 3D, we now advance to specific props; we were namely tasked with modeling 3 individual crates, because *every* game needs (and has) crates in them. However, not all crates look alike. Depending on the style and theme of the game, even such simple props can differ vastly!
The styles we had to choose from were:

Science Fiction
Urban Contemporary
Medieval
Post-apocalyptic
Cartoony

My normal go-to style would be Cartoony, but I felt like challenging myself and expand my horizons a little. So, the first […]
