Week 12: Fleshing Out a Character

This week we were tasked to choose one of the thumbnails we created from the first week and further develop it, creating a backstory and personality for it. I chose my engineer thumb, because I felt it was right for the setting I had originally envisioned her in, which is a post-apocalyptic society set in the 27th century. Below is my process from a doodle to a finished sketch.

Rebecca Shockley Sketch

For the assignment our job was to draw our character in a relaxed, neutral pose and display the steps from doodle to sketch as I have done here. Alongside this, we had to make an orthogonal turnaround of the character, displaying it from 3 or 4 angles, depending on whether or not the character was symmetrical, and a written reflection of our design choices.

Marcus Franzén, Turnaround

My character: Rebecca Shockley, a 21 year old mechanic who was born and raised in the lower-middle class of a post-apocalyptic society. Most of her working time goes towards fixing the damaged mechs guarding the town from the mutated horrors that wander the irradiated land.
