Assignment 3 – Character Modeling – Tah-dah!
|
So, this has been a hell of a week and I have finally finished Ehta. Well, I say “finished” but there is so much more I want to do and improve that I’m almost a bit embarrassed, but due to the time limit I have to send in the model and just accept the fact that I cannot do anything more. My computer has been acting up constantly with the drivers for the GPU crashing and blue screening me back to the stone age. Apparently, that’s not a good thing. With some computer magic, I can bypass the blue screens but that ends up completely blocking my access to Mudbox, which is where I have been creating my textures. So a lot of time that could have been spent on texturing has gone to try to fix my hardware problems. Eventually, David Peldan was nice enough to lend out his computer to me! So these last few days I have been scrambling to get everything done and this is the result! Ehta with all his 5 texture maps. After all my hardware problems and some mental breakdowns, I’m somewhat satisfied with the result, at least with the diffuse texture which I managed to get to look like some kind of fur! Unfortunately, the mammoth fur Oscar was seeking was a bit too hard to achieve with my limited time, knowledge of Mudbox and polycount The UV layout of the model Apart from the diffuse I also used normal-, specular-, opacity- and incandescence maps. These all worked fine, but if I could change anything I would probably have wanted to spend more time on the normal and specular maps to create a better looking fur. Even though I know that hair and fur is really hard to achieve a good result with. Diffuse Emitt Color Map Normal Map Opacity Map Specular Map All in all, this was a really fun assignment and I learned a lot! Too bad I bumped into so many problems at the end of the assignment, but with everything I learned I can try to avoid these problems and plan better for future assignments! |
