3D Course – Assignment 3 Update

This is an update post for assignment 3, and since the deadline is just in a few days and I’m a bit behind, I’m going to keep this very brief.

A3finalmodelA3WireframemodelThis is the final model for the character JigTick, a sand goblin.
(created by Max http://maxmaekvidya.wordpress.com/)

It’s been a bit troublesome to model this fellow, due to his unusual legs and seperate parts, but I think I managed to get it right. Organic modelling has been a lot more difficult than I expected, but I’ve really learned a lot.

Here’s the model next to- and on top of the original concept art for comparison:

I’ve strayed a bit when it comes to certain parts of the design, and I’m wondering a bit whether or not I should try and adjust some parts to make it look more like the concept art before I begin texturing it. I think the parts I’m mainly concerned about are the feet (if they should be bigger and if I should rotate them outwards a bit) and the head (if I should lower it a bit). The legs I’m a bit unsure of if they need any changes. The same goes for the little tail that sticks out from beneath the cloth, maybe I should make it a bit longer? I’ll see what I’ll have time for to fix…

Anyhow, I begun UVmapping the model today and hopefully I’ll be able to work on the texturing tomorrow. There has been some problems with the UV around the leg joints/behind the knees (deformations), but other than that I think that the UV mapping has gone pretty smoothly so far. I didn’t have any problems adding the separate objects (the hat, mask veil, and cloth) to the same UV map as the character model this time, which was really good.

I hope that I’ll be able to get everything done for Sunday, especially the blog posts about the assignments. October was one of the most stressful months that I’ve ever experienced and I got very behind in the 3D course, but I’m going to try and do my best to catch up.
