This is, again, a late blog report on my Assignment 2 necklace. Following up on my previous post, this is a short and simple post on my final model and its textures.
Above is my final model rendered in UDK with the diffuse, specular and normal textures on.
My diffuse texture has the simple patterns of each of my pearls. To go with my simplified cartoony style, I kept the colors limited, and used a lot of contrast between the main components of my patterns and the simple planes of my pearls to emphasize the patterns. The colors in this texture are much stronger and brighter than in my WIP texture from my previous post, to go more with the Asterix and Obelix style.
My specular texture adds the shininess to my necklace. Since I kept the self-shading in my diffuse minimal, the specular adds a lot of lightning to my model. My specular is a simple edit of my diffuse texture, and I kept the contrast between the patterns and the surfaces of my pearls to keep the emphasis on the patterns.
Finally, my normal map. For my normal map I went over my diffuse and just filled out the most prominent surface details that aren’t present in the model itself. Due to the simplicity of the model, and the round properties of most of my surfaces, I tried not to make my normal map too strong, so that it wouldn’t clash with the model. The fake 3D added by my normal map is particularly noticable on the spirals on my front pearl, and the squares on the sides of the pearls next to it.
