I have a sense of impending doom

Our teacher, Adam Mayes, has given us an assignment to come up with a concept for a game based on the theme ”impending doom”. Our constraints are that the player is not allowed to move – they can turn around, use their arms and move their head, but not walk, swim, fly etc. The player will fail at the end of the game – there is no winning condition. However, the player must think that they can win.

I had a few different ideas, but the one I decided to stick with is this; the player has been infected by a zombie virus. During the game the player is lying on a stretcher in a doctor’s office, strapped down and unable to move for stafety reasons. In the background, a doctor assures you that a cure is being worked on and that you only need to stay calm for a few more minutes. In order to slow down the infection and the process of turning into a zombie, the player has to keep their pulse at a normal level while doctors complete their work. The player regulates their heart rate by using right and left arrows to move a marker on a bar, attempting to keep it in the middle. As the game continues and the infection spreads, the marker moves further out towards the ends of the bar and it is increasingly difficult to force it back to the middle. Eventually, the player can’t control it anymore and they either die of heart failure, or the infection spreads and they become a zombie.

1

Keep the heartbeat in the middle!

2

Mash [right arrow] to force it back!

My idea might be a bit a bit simplistic, but I like it. Hopefully it meets the requirements of the assignment.
