The Five Heads of the Hydra

Greetings!

Was watching a QnA with the youtuber Jesse Cox earlier this week. In it he talked about a fanart of himself he anted to be drawn, and it was mostly from the image he described I got this idea.

I had some trouble when it came to how I wanted the hero to be portraid, but I think it came out rather well for the skill level I am at.

As I usually do, I started with a simple sketch and a gradient to set the colors.

In the original sketch I had mermaid begging the hero for help, but it never made it in to the final drawing.

I then drew a quick background and the silhouette for the hydra.

I then went for the hero riding a seahorse instead for a regular horse, since it is in the middle of the ocean.

I then started to focus at the hero more and more.

Went over to the hydras some. Tested having the heads in different colors, but scrapped that soon after. Notice how you can barely see the seahorse against the water? Yeah, I noticed that too.

Went back to blue/purple heads here. And tested changing the color on the seahorse, did not like the result, so…

Yeah, it’s gone! Decided to go and fix the hydras before playing around with the tiny hero.

And so it went. A flying horse, why not! Felt the color felt better than the seahorse.

Done with some of the shading of the hero and his horse. And…

Done!

Was a nice to experiment with drawing water, and also scales on the hydras. I think that I’m going to try and draw something with scales on a smaller scale(pun intended) just so I can practice it more, because it’s hard.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

Have a good one!
