An Introduction

Hello! I am Marcus, a GAME student over att Uppsala University currently studying Game Design and Game Analysis with a secondary course in Graphics. This blog will showcase the work I have done each week and I will post updates hopefully every friday.

Last week’s assignment
Last week we had the assignment to analyze the good old game Space Invaders by looking at the objects of the game, the properties and behavior of those objects as well as how they relate to each other.

Space Invaders

The ”objects” in this case are any physical or abstract element within the game. The player craft, aliens, bullets, shields; all those are objects. Everything that makes up the game and that influences gameplay.
The ”properties” are what describes the objects. Having a colour, a speed of movement, a sound effect or even being present on the screen is a property. The player controlling the craft that shoots at the aliens is also a property.
The ”behaviors” are what the objects can do in any given state. Firing a bullet as a player, moving the craft or an alien awarding points when killed is a behavior of those objects.
The ”relations” between objects is how they interact with each other, and for this we used a ”relationship grid” where we aligned different objects and wrote in the intersecting box what could happen when those two objects interacted. It looks something like the image below.
