Owls, saurids and Supēsu Inbēdās

So first week at GAME is over and there was a lot of ground covered. It’s going to be a challenge to study full time and simultaneously run the business but as a musician I’m used to working long hours. After mulling the idea of my company name around a bit I came up with something even better. Owls are totally awesome, but you know what else is awesome? DINOSAURS! Therefore I am proud to announce my game and sound design enterprise: ”Jurassic Owl”. Bitchin’ logo featuring a Owlosaur and homepage to be announced later this year. First week we discussed the different objects that form a game world and their respective properties and relationships. It was intriguing to deconstruct a game as simple as Space Invaders and realize that it from a design standpoint poses quite a few questions. Game design isn’t black and white and design decisions can be implemented in many different ways, trying to imagine how Tomohiro Nishikado came to his decisions regarding the design of the worlds first space shooter was in the end as much a character study of the designer as a study of his legacy. I hear we’ll be analyzing Bioshock Infinite soon as an exercise in game narratives, being someone who was not impressed with that game’s story (at all), I’m looking forward to tearing it a new one. |
