First week! Space Invaders and D&D!

The first school week has come to an end, though I’ll probably be looking into more stuff this weekend. We were at the beginning of the week assigned to analyse the retro game Space Invaders and describe its different objects with properties, behaviors and relationships. We were supposed to look at it in a perspective as a designer, and I must admit I was struggling a bit. I have been coding for a couple of years now and I can’t really stop thinking in the ways of a programmer, and I believe that made me somewhat confused at what was right and/or wrong.

The other thing we did this week was make characters for the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons 5th Ed. and my heart went all warm and fuzzy when Adam, our teacher, told us that we were going to play a paperback role-playing game. I’ve never actually played D&D (only the digital interpretations, i.e. Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale) but I have great experience in other, mainly Swedish-made, paperback role-playing games (Mutant, Western, Wastelands, LoTR, Pendragon).

Next week we will be continuing with lectures with Adam (NOT Mr Mayes Junior) and I have a feeling it will be great!

Best regards,

Sven

P.S. I’ll be linking some great music with my posts, music I’ve been listening to while studying, just for fun. Enjoy! D.S.
