ERA – First week of production

This Monday Escape Reality Studios started producing the game Eternal Resonance: Area E.R.A;  a new type of MOBA/RTS hybrid. For more info on the studio as well as the project, please check out our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/EscapeRealityStudio
My roll in this project is primarily as a Unity programmer and secondarily as an assisting designer; Daniel Svensson is our lead Designer.
As Unity is a game development tool I have not worked with before; this first week has been quite slow. I have worked hard getting accustomed […]

The beginning

And so we finish the first week of production.
I’ve been putting together a style guide for our game, something that’s invaluable for the production. Since I was the lead artist on the last project I worked on, King of the Thrill, I had already made one and could get to work at once. In this new styleguide I’ve shown the level of stylization, the color palettes in the different levels, general aesthetics of the game and how the levels differ, among […]

First week of Big Game project

As the title suggests I recently started a course called Big Game project. During this course I will, together with a group, create a vertical slice of a game, that we will continue to work with after this course. The game that I will work on is a MOBASA, Multiplayer Online Battle and Strategy Arena, that we are calling Eternal Resonance Arena, E.R.A. The game is team based where two teams face each other. Each team have a commander; that […]

Big Game Project Week 1

So this week our group started with the production of our first person puzzle game in which you redirect light by rotating mirrors in order to reflect the light in certain directions. Earlier we had decided to use the Unreal Engine 4 to develop our game and prior to this week i had roughly 3-5 hours of experience of working with UE4.
This week i started by prototyping most of the features that would be in the game, i managed to […]

First week

This week I’ve been looking at how we can get the networking to work and started working on a start menu so that we can get the different clients to connect to eachother. To test this and to get that to work I started working on a chat room. Right now it’s just a basic chat room so that everyone can talk to each other. It now works, it doesn’t look that good however but it’s just a temporary interface.

Theme Park

This week the next course began. In the course we are supposed to work in groups to make a game and input system for arcade machines.
My team is going for a game where you feed a crocodile and help it eat. You move the “crocodiles” teeth in a puzzle manner to eat the different kinds of foods that the crocodile is going to eat. The teeth have to be placed in certain places for it being able to eat the […]

What happen to week 10?

I was supposed to post about the project result last week but i actually forgot about it. The only thing i wanted to do was to get some rest…
So last Thursday we sat up all night polishing the game, i put a to-do-list as, but the lead programmer said that we didn’t have the time to complete everything so we ended up trashing a lot of features. So the artist would sit down and finish all the art that we […]

Preparing for year 3 already now.

Right now, the Big Game project course has started. Some groups are already well underway with their projects, others who lacks groups will pitch their game ideas tomorrow (Friday 4th April) and try and find the members they need.

I talked to two teachers at Campus Gotland, Håkan Mattsson and Adam Mayes, about the idea I had for big game project. And they really liked my idea. But the scope was to big for the time that is left on the […]

3D3, real-time 3D

The Big Game Project has already begun and most of my time goes into developing our game. But before I’ll begin writing about that journey I’ll sum up what I’ve done in the previous 3D course.
Our first assignment was to create two tile able textures, to get some challenge I decided to go with realistic grass and a brick wall texture. I had most problems with the grass texture because I did didn’t want the texture to look to boring […]
