Day 1: First week done and we’ve come so far already. Since I’ve finished a lot of my environment models already I got assigned to model and texture the fish we’re going to have. I was given a half done model and changed it a bit. I put it into zbrush and sculpted on it, made some fish scales with alpha brushes. I used planes with texture on as fens, for some reason the planes become transparent in Maya and the model screwed up when I tried to separate the fens from the body. The programmers wanted separate object to put different shaders on but since it didn’t work they have to make a shader that works instead which I feel is the right way to go. Day2: I’ve started doing a tree stump to sort of fill up the level with, also some tree remains lying on the ground, mushrooms, both in cluster and singles with different textures. I’ve redone all my trees since our shader with doublesided rendering for the leaves didn’t work. Most of the day has been spent on analyzing the swedish environment in the woods. Day3: Since I’m responsible for the terrain of the game I’ve been studying unity terrains, watching tutorials and also tried out World Machine, which is a terrain building program. Unfortunately it crashed and started lagging whenever I tried to work in it. Day 4: World Machine didn’t work as planned, so the terrain is being manually built. Me and the rest of the group has come up with a good layout for the level which I’m going to convert to unity. Day 5: Mostly terrain building today, a lot of iteration on the trees. We’re got feedback that we needed fewer polygons on our trees. So I lowered them radically from approx 3000 polys to 600. We’re preparing for our first playable and are on a good way. |
