The week of the projectiles
|
Hello, this week I have been working a lot with projectiles that the player and the enemies can shoot. The different projectiles is made of water, fire and wood. Tha same as our enemies in the game. And i also changed the lost soul a little so it looked more ghost like. All i did was to make the body of it transparent. The animations needed was when it was moving, when it hits something and when it have travelled to far so it has to disappear. I first started to work on the fire projectile. I wanted it to be some kind of fireball, and have a tail of fire behind it when it moves. So I started sketching on it in Photoshop, den when I had gotten a good design on it I started sketching on the animation. After I get an animation that loops well and looks like it is moving I brought it into SAI to make the line art. Then I tried the line art in Photoshop to see that it worked as an animation. Then when I had ensured it worked I brought it back into SAI to color it and do shadings. I used the same colors as the fire enemy that we have. So it feels like they are made of the same thing. Then for the hit animation I started with just looking at the first frame of the moving animation. And then paint on it to get a feel over how it would look like when it hit something. So I started sketching on that in Photoshop and then made the sketch animation. Then I worked between SAI and Photoshop again to get the line art, color and shading to work in the animation. I have to go a lot between Photoshop and SAI because there is often something in the shading or color that needs to be changed. Then I had to do the animation for it to disappear without hitting anything. So I made it so it would get smaller and kinda burn out and disappear. Kinda like it hade no fuel left. Then I started working on the water projectile. That one was a little different. That one need to be able to travel in any direction, so I hade to make projectile that was easily used anywhere no matter wich was it was going. So I made a kind of whirlpool ball that would be able to be used in all directions. So it mostly just spins. Also here I used the water enemies colors. Then I made the disappear animation for water. That one I wanted it to look like it collapsed on itself and had no power to spin anymore. Then I made the hit animation, that was also required to be able to hit from any direction. So I made it transform in to a circle that would hit the target from any direction like an explosion. Then I started on the wood projectile movement animation. For that one I wanted it to look like it could pierce the target. So I made a pointy stick or branch with leaves on it. The movement animation is mostly just the leaves moving as the stick is a thing that don’t really transform any when it is traveling. Also here I used the colors from the wood enemy. Then I made the disappear animation. For that one I chose to make it break and grow old and scatter in the wind. I made it into several pieces and made the color darker in the last frames so it looked like it got old. For the hit animation I wanted it too look like it actually pierced the target. So when it hits i made it break into 3 big spikes and several small pieces. It breaks apart and pierce the target on several locations. The leaves fall off on impact and fly away and disappear. Well this is it for now i think. Thank you for reading, goodbye. |
