For this weeks post im gonna talk about the finalizing the lost souls animation, static objects for the game and a background object with a tree.
So first im gonna talk about the lost soul animation. I have added color, shadow and highlights to it. I chose light blue as it makes it feel like something that is a little depressed and lonely and it will show good against the green foreground that you walk on. It also differs a lot from the main character and enemies. So it will be easy to spot. I also used teal color for the eyes which makes it look sad and shadows on the bottom so it looks even sadder. With the coloring there was a problem where if I didn’t watch out some highlights and shadows would jump around too much between the frames so i had to keep the first frame next to the one i was editing so i could easily see how it looked and it made it go smoother while coloring it. I had to go between Photoshop and SAI several times to see that it looked good. I used SAI to color it and Photoshop to make the animation and play it so i could see what was wrong with it, or good. Here it is now, it may be edited some more but as it will be quite small in the game it wont be a problem, as small things on it wont be noticeable. So fixing small problems isn’t high priority right now.
Here it is as it looks like right now:

Next I’m gonna talk about a static object I made. Static objects in the game can be used as cover from the enemies projectiles and you can’t walk on them. But they can also be used in the background as background objects that you can’t interact with. So it’s very handy when I make them because then I get twice the work done. As I have said in other blog posts I use SAI to draw, I think it’s the best for line art and is very handy for cartoony looking things. The static object I made this time is some kind of kettle that I have seen in pictures from china, they are often used as decorations. So I thought it would go nice in the game. I also made the kettle part made out of Jade as eastern Asia is very famous for their jade. The thing with this kettle design is that you can use it more than one time. You can just put other things on top of it to make it into another decorations, as that kettle design is quite common in china and have several designs like it. For this one I added a small eastern asian styled roof. Here it is:
I notice now that the platform it stands on is in two colors, as I havent decided on all the colors yet and I forgot about editing it before I uploaded it.
Next I made a big stone tablet with japanese writing on it. But I tought it looked a little weird by itself so I added a tree to see how it could look like in-game. I havent done a tree that grows on and around another thing before so that was a new challenge but I think I pulled it off. I havent added any leaf sections to it yet or any shadows so it looks kinda flat. As the tree look dead right now you can use it to make the enviroment feel dead and scary, and making the player feel like he/she is alone. Here it is:

Then I also made a little object that most likely will be used in the background. It will probably be much smaller than it is shown here. It is also something i have seen in pictures from china, and there is several similar designs of it in the chinese culture.
This is it for this for this week, I leave you with the object I just talked about and thanks for reading.
