Boss fights!
|
Alpha has gone by, and we are now officially in the beta stage! So for the beta, us programmers of Ladybugs Productions decided to finalize the AI that we’re going to use in the game. This includes the 3 boss fights, whose design I’ll go over in this post.
Skulls “masterfully” edited in by me The first two bosses (white skulls in the picture) are interchangeable and can be killed in any order. In the left sleeve, there’s Grubby McGrub. This fight will be a “whack-a-mole”-style fight, where he will go underground for a short period of time, after which he’ll burst out of the ground on the player’s position, dealing damage to the player if he is in a small radius from where the boss pops up, as well as shooting some projectiles in a circle around him, which also deal damage to the player. During this time, damage can be dealt to the boss. After another short period of time, he burrows, and the fight repeats until the boss is dead. Meanwhile, in the right sleeve, Ben Bugger resides. His fight is a kite-fight, where he will constantly follow you around, slowly gaining speed until he hits you, at which point he’ll revert back to his original speed, while also dealing massive damage to the player. To counter the constantly increasing speed, there will be puddles of smile around the room, which slows down whatever enters it, player and boss alike. The player must then kite (“drag”) the boss into these puddles while not stepping into them himself. If the boss enters the slime, his speed will reset back to its default value, and (not yet fully decided) will take extra amounts of damage. This then repeats until the boss is dead. When both these bosses are dead, the final boss Mothgomery appears in the room the game started out in, near the collar of the suit. This is an add-fight. When the fight starts, Mothgomery will deflect any shots made towards him, causing him not to take any damage. He summons lesser versions of the bosses (and/or trash mobs, not yet finalized), which must be dealt with. When these adds are dead, Mothgomery goes into a state of confusion, where he can’t believe that you actually killed the bugs. At this point, he stops deflecting shots, allowing the player to damage him. After a while, he regains his focus, and once again starts deflecting shots, and summons new adds which need to be killed. The fight then repeats until the boss is dead. When Mothgomery is dead, the credits are shown and the game is finished.
