The colour of life
|
This week has been a not so productive week for me, nevertheless a very important week. Up to now we haven’t had any style guide or anything at all to look at while making art in order to make different components to work together and look good. But when Ida made a mood board in the end of last week we finally started to get a common visual goal on what we wanted to achieve. So this week we have had more meetings and Camilla have started on a style guide. The biggest reason for why we needed a style guide is so that we can work separately on things but still make them in the same style. But it will also make it easier for us to help each other with things like colouring sprites and other pictures. And when we start on things like menus and such it will be very helpful so that everything will have not only the same font and colour but also the same spacing and font size if different people happen to work on the different menus. I have also made some furniture for the levels this week. For example I made an Aquarium. An Aquarium was something that we really knew we wanted in our game. If you want an opportunity to put some colour and life to any room there is one thing that can never go wrong, get an aquarium (unless you’re rubbish at feeding fish). When I did this artefact I wanted to do some colourful corals and some purple and turquoise light (that pretty much follows our mood board). All our art is quite small and the aquarium is made out of eight 64×64 tiles. Due to the small format it is hard to really get into details and it is difficult to make representative pictures of things. But I am actually very happy with how it turned out. I had some problems on the way though, but it was mostly due to confusion around size. When I was done with the picture (the first time) I saved it and opened my project in Tiled, as I usually do since it is a good way to see how things will be in the game. But when I placed the Aquarium next to the wall I noticed that it was way higher than the wall. So I had to change it and remove a lot of the aquarium base (the box that is usually under medium sized aquariums). I could have removed some of the water tank as well to get a better balance but since I didn’t want to lose any of the things inside it I decided it was better to just change the design a bit and simply keep it the way it was. I think it looks cool any way.
