Game Project week 6

This week has been a bit hectic, due to that we had an extra lecture in our other course so some time was lost and I haven’t been able to put down as much work as I wanted this week. But still I have been able to get some things done.

I have been working on the graphics for the rooms, we have the layout and design finished so now we are able to make them look like we want them to.

As the player you are supposed to walk around inside a suit as a little robot. The walls in the game are of textile and the intended feeling is that the textile is torn apart around the areas were the player can walk.

I started making a couple of brushes in Photoshop and you can see some of the final results here:

I think I will save time by using a couple of brushes that I am able to switch between when creating the graphics instead of drawing everything by hand. And I also think it would help with the consistency of the graphic so that not every rooms looks too different from each other. But obviously we don’t want every room to look exactly the same.

Some issues that I see with drawing everything by hand are both the drawing technique and time. It will take some time before I will be able to have the right technique drawing by hand and the result can be that the first rooms will look very different from the rooms were I have developed the “right” technique. And I am positive that I will get enough of variation out of the brushes that I have created for now and if I am not satisfied with the result I can always create more brushes.

For the main color of the suits I went with the texture that Ludwig found (Our groups lead artist). Then I created a brush for that too. I had some problems in making the texture look seamless and got an ugly line were the texture were supposed to overlap but after some time I was able to get it the way I wanted it to look like.

And then I started to put things together, I started by adding the texture to the “walls” and after that I started drawing the edges with the brushes I had. Here is a concept of how a finished room could look like. left-1-test

There are hidden rooms in our game and this is only an example of how one of those rooms could look like or rather the opening to one, we are not quite sure yet how exactly these openings are supposed to look like, we want some of them to be easy to find and others harder.

This is how the room looks like when the hidden room is revealed:

This was everything for this week. Have a nice weekend.
