Finished the elemental points and started with new work!

This week I have finished the elemental icons for our game. Last time I posted, I had only finished the wood element icon and needed to remake the water and fire icons. The remake of the two went well, and i managed to get the same style of the leaf on the two of them. After I was done making the main icons, I also started remaking the small point icons, and ended up choosing the smaller icon setup seen in my last post, and started making them fit their respective element.

When I was done with the small icons, I started thinking that the big icon’s frames looked very dull and empty, so i started working on new ones. The new frames looked much better than their bland and boring predecessors. I made the frames look like old, cracked stone circles. And on top of this I also made a gold version of the ring, so that the player can see what element is currently equipped in game.We were also discussing in the group whether to have a little arrow on the side of the big icons instead of making them golden, since this would be a little easier to code. In the end though, it seemed that it would not be as much of a problem as we thought, so we stuck to the golden ring idea.

These are the new icons for fire and water, as well for the small elemental points.

These are the new icons for fire and water, as well for the small elemental points, with and without the glowing ring.

With the elemental point artifact finished, I have started with two new artifacts, one being a altar that the player can interact with to get element points, and the menu screen visuals, buttons etc. I have started making the altar and progress is slow, since most of this weeks time have been spent being on long 2D course lessons. Designing the altar is currently a bit difficult, as I have to make the object fit into the game world and make it stick out from the other objects in the world.

We’ve also started discussing in the group how we want the main menu buttons to look like, whether we want the buttons to glow when selected or having a arrow mark the selection. In the end, we decided that we wanted the buttons to have a glow around it when selected and chosen. And that we want to have the buttons to have a similar look to the elemental icons, having small golden circles on the sides when selected.

I don’t have a lot of pictures to show this week, and for this I am sorry. I simply haven’t progressed as far with these new artifacts yet. Next week will have more pictures!

Cheers!
