Suit Em Up Dev Post 1
|
Well, I haven’t posted here in quite some time. Anyway, long story short: the group that I’ve been assigned with as the Lead Programmer to make a full game has chosen a project and we’re now going to… well… make it… I guess… The name is (as of this moment) Suit Em Up which is the development name of the project since we do not have a clear idea of what the name should be yet (though, we had some fun ideas – one of them being Tailor Moon). So far we’ve established the base design of the game, the graphics style and the mechanics. I’m mostly involved in the latter one. The first thing we had to do was to build a good base for the game. We started out with a simple prototype where you could move and shoot and get hit by enemies. At this point we were not very familiar with SFML (which is the graphics library that we’re going to use for this project) so it was made in SDL2, however one of the graphics designers made another prototype with more graphic capabilities. This did stir up some trouble. While it was very helpful of the guy to help out, it was also hard to understand some of the code implemented. We did know that it didn’t exactly work with what we were used to and we had to deal with learning SFML at the same time. Still, I appreciate that he helped out, I just hope that he properly announces what he’s going to do next time and asks beforehand because it’s good to have a good view of what’s going on in your project code-wise. We’ve also had talk about adding something called box2D to make collision managing easier. However, I am not sure if we’re going to use it – I have to check some info on that particular library. Dunno if I have anything else to add right now. All I’m doing at the moment is to add the normal stuff to the project: StateManager, GameObject, GameObjectManager and various states. I know this probably isn’t close to 1000 words, but dammit I’m feeling tired. |
