Sketches & Art: Shaman WIP
|
More painting ^^ this time I’ve been working with pretty much everything. gonna add a lot of pictures here to depict my workflow First I made dynamic lines, to catch the movement of the character (My head got all scribbled over and erased during a later stage so it looks really weird.
Then I started constructing it, What i did was i first fleshed out the body, made the torso and the hip section and combining them. After that I started constructing the arms by adding cylinders and small “hands”. Then I followed up with making cylinders for the legs. Second picture here is where I started depicting muscle. sinew, strecthes and bulges. On the next one I made a basic face and removed the bottom layer of construction (the dynamic lines and the first of the construction pictures.
After this I added clothing and hair. Adding clothing is surprisingly easy at times especially with this character where I knew i was only going to have very simple cloth to put focus on the hat and face, so I added a shirt thingie and a skirt.
And after this, I made a Fine Line. Fine lines define the important lines of a picture, the lines in this picture are all there to define important parts and/or create the outlays of the characters (This is where i messed up my hands)
I Followed this up with adding values (Shadows) and making a sketchy background. This is actually the longest process of this: i’ve spent about 14 hours into this picture in about 2 days and this step took up 7 or 8 of those hours. I have seperate sections of this process to, It just isn’t happening very much, It mostly looks like a fill in the blanks ;P Anyway, to make the values for the shaman I had to determine the light sources, I did this both mentally and physically, First i added two lights in the background (Torches) and I also imagined some type of light upfront. Together this allowed me to use the Shadow cylinder to add my values. Shadow Cylinder is basically a formula that allows the user of it to know how to shadow. Even though I failed at parts (the hands again) and had to redo the face 3 times I would never been able to do this without it.
And combining them
This far I’m overall satisfied with it, The hands need a little look at and I need to not have such a rough background. I became surprisingly satisfied with the hair and the hat. I’m also happy i was able to pull off the neck as good as I was. This is only a training project I’m doing for fun, But any feedback would be greatly appreciated
