Weekly Report 2013-11-25

This report came out behind schedule, sorry for that! Short story is that I became so tired after handing in my homework for the week that I forgot to write it. Anyway, enough with the delays!
At the start of the week we were introduced to the methods of perspective involving visual guidelines in the form of grids. A repetitive and tedious endeavour to be frank, but the result is a most useful tool to help you with keeping any object you put on paper consistent in its size and proportions throughout the space it inhabits. I always seem to be getting some minor detail wrong, only making itself known once the later stages of the process commences. Apart from that a competition took place from Thursday to Friday where teams would create a game within roughly 24 hours using enchant.js. Due to a lack of participants however, only a handful of groups were able to be formed. I was able to get into a group that did not disband soon after by sheer luck. My team didn’t win, unsurprisingly considering we only had one person that could code. We managed to make a functioning game at least. Perhaps next time there will be an earlier heads up along with a competition that doesn’t collide with most programmers’ studies.
Been trying to press through Vilppu’s Drawing Manual, but I’m currently stuck on chapter four’s boxes. Never thought inanimate objects would be harder to do than living beings. As for today we delved into the finer details of a human body, specifically its hands, feet and face or rather the head as a whole. I’m actually surprised with myself, as I was able to finally construct a human being from head to toe with some semblance of proper depth and shape. It’s in my sketchbook right now, but I’ll try to have it done clean in the computer at a later date!
That’s it for this week I believe. Till next time!
